The people and entities that constitute Unitat Contra el Feixisme i el Racisme (Unity Against Fascism and Racism – Catalunya) are extremely concerned about the situation in Gaza, with many lives already lost and the threat of a new massacre.
We are aware that the Israeli far-right — which we condemn, like all the far-right — has played a key role in reaching this situation. Benjamin Netanyahu is part of the same group as Trump, Bolsonaro, etc., in promoting hatred and discrimination to benefit themselves and their circle.
The language they are using against the Palestinian people reminds us excessively of many phrases from a tragic past that must not be repeated. They also fuel the Islamophobia that threatens the rights of millions of Muslim people around the world.
It is worth noting that the international far-right — including VOX — fully supports the Netanyahu government. We must not forget that this far-right — including VOX — harbours neo-Nazis who have promoted the most horrific anti-Semitism.
We insist that criticisms of any crime committed by the state of Israel in no way justify anti-Semitism, nor insults or attacks against Jewish people and entities around the world. The state of Israel does not represent the worldwide Jewish population, in the same way that the states of Iran or Saudi Arabia do not represent the Muslim population, or the Francoite fascist state in Spain did not represent the Christian people.
We demand:
- The cessation of any attack against the civilian population, by any side, and that the Israeli military intervention in Gaza be stopped immediately;
- That international governments do everything possible to stop the bombing, and to deliver humanitarian aid and essential supplies to the people of Gaza;
- That these respect the full right to refuge, with safe routes, for people who need it;
- And that international legality in general be respected.
